BLU-RAY REVIEW — “Every Day”
Based on the best-selling novel, Every Day follows 16-year-old Rhiannon (Angourie Rice) as she crosses paths and falls in love with a “soul” of sorts named “A.” A inhabits a new body every day – flip flopping between different genders, races, and body types. Rhiannon and A fall in love with one another, despite the obviously enormous challenges that come with simply being able to see each other.
I missed seeing this one in theaters, so I was genuinely curious about how it would turn out considering the premise is so darn original. While I can’t say that the film lives up to its fullest potential, I admire its message about blind love and loving a soul, opposed to loving the body that it inhabits. Angourie Rice proves again that she is a star in the making, as she serves as an excellent protagonist to follow. It’s also really impressive to see her have solid chemistry with each of the actors that the film gets to play A. It would be really easy to mess that up, but each body-swap works. As I said, the film doesn’t quite go as far as the premise could easily take it – but as far as YA-novel adaptations go, this is definitely one of the better ones.
The film is full of surprisingly rich cinematography, and the Blu-Ray transfers it over greatly. This is a genuinely beautiful looking film. The special features include interviews with the director and cast, as well as some deleted scenes. The Blu-Ray is definitely worth grabbing if you’re already a fan of the film, and if you’re thinking about giving the film a shot like I did – I think you’ll enjoy it! It’s a nice and imaginative film about how love has no boundaries.
